Ayeka

Ayeka"Ayeka? Where are you?" is the first question in the Torah. This question guides us along our authentically personal path, our practices and our relationships. In a world where it is so easy to become disconnected with our Jewish lives, an intimate venue is needed where we can explore Jewish themes, express ourselves with kindred spirits, and connect with their inner voice: a place that is truly conducive to ongoing personal growth.

Based on fantastic response to the Jewish spiritual/personal growth workshops conducted in March by Rabbi Aryeh Ben David, we are working to bring this program to our community. Preparations are taking place to offer regularly scheduled workshops for groups of 10-16 that would begin this spring and summer. More groups will be formed in the fall.

How Do Your Prepare for the High Holidays?
The High Holidays present many of us with the question "Ayeka" -- Where are you (at)?" With this in mind, Jacob Schreiber, Executive Director of the JCC, has created a special series of three Ayeka workshops that will help us transition into this time of year with heightened awareness and purpose. The topics will include:

  • Judging Oneself
  • Forgiveness
  • Change

This special series will begin on August 20, 2010. Group sizes are limited to 16. Contact Jeff Goldenberg at 913-327-4647 or jeffg@jewishkc.org for details.

Rabbi Aryeh Ben DavidRabbi Aryeh Ben David founded Ayeka, Jewish Spiritual Education, in 2006 after many years in the classroom, teaching subjects including Torah, Talmud, prayer, ethics, and interpersonal relationships. Seeking a way to enable students to more deeply engage with Judaism and to explore their spiritual, he has been involved in the training of staff of countless organizations and lectures internationally. He is the author of "Around the Shabbat Table, a Guide to Meaningful Shabbat Conversations" (2000) and "The Godfile, Ten Approaches To Personalizing Prayer" (2007).

Aryeh grew up outside of NYC and studied psychology at Vassar College. He came to Israel in 1978, studied at the Meretz yeshiva in Mevasseret Zion and received Rabbinic ordination from the Israeli Rabbinate. He served in the Israeli army and now lives in Efrat, Gush Etzion, with his wife Sandra and their six children.
