Jewish Book Fair

Jewish Book Fair
For the "People of the Book," there's nothing better than a good read. So for over 15 years the Jewish Community Center has celebrated Jewish books and Jewish authors at its annual Jewish Book Fair.

The Jewish Book Fair's objective is to educate the community about the availability of Jewish literature and to stimulate discussion and thought regarding current Jewish issues, history, philosophy, literature and poetry while adding to the understanding of the Jewish experience.

Jewish Book Fair 2009 was full of interesting authors and fun events. We are already planning for 2010, visit this page for the latest information on Book Fair events! For more information on Jewish Book Fair programing, contact Jeff Goldenberg at 913-327-4647 or jeffg@jewishkc.org.

Where's My Miracle?Where's My Miracle?  Exploring Jewish Traditions for Dealing with Tragedy
Our community has a longstanding connection with Rabbi Morey Schwartz from his years at BIAV, as a Melton classroom instructor, and as our teacher via live video- conference from Jerusalem each Tuesday morning. Many topics of those classroom discussions are an integral part of his new book, Where’s My Miracle? Exploring Jewish Traditions   For Dealing With Tragedy.

Rabbi Morey SchwartzThe Center is honored to host Rabbi Schwartz at a unique book event on Sunday afternoon, September 12 at 4:30pm. Discussion will be followed by a book signing.  There is no charge to attend this event that is being presented by The Jewish Book Fair and the Department of Adult Jewish Learning

To RSVP, contact Jeff Goldenberg, Director of Adult Jewish Learning,

Council of Dads by Bruce Feiler
Tuesday evening, 7:00 pm at the Village Presbyterian Church

Mr. Feiler will incorporate observations from his recent best-seller, America’s Prophet: Moses and the American Story. He will include themes of the challenge, importance, and benefits of interfaith understanding in a rapidly shrinking world.  Bruce Feiler is one of America's most popular voices on faith, family, and finding meaning in everyday life. He is one of a small handful of writers with four consecutive New York Times nonfiction bestsellers in the last decade.  His works delve into rich histories of the faiths of Abraham (Judaism, Christianity and Islam), and Felier's current bestseller, Council of Dads, is based on his personal and poignant story. Facing life-threatening cancer, he looks beyond himself to engage those he trusts to guide and accompany his small twin daughters in his absence.  Feiler's personal faith experience coupled with his depth knowledge of historic faith figures promises an engaging and inspiring event.

His titles include America's Prophet: Moses and the American Story; Where God Was Born: A daring Adventure Through the Bible's Greatest Stories; Abraham: A Journey to the Heart of Three Faiths; Walking the Bible: A Journey by Land Through the Five Books of Moses; and Walking the Bible: A Photographic Journey.

Enjoy learning more about Bruce Feiler at http://brucefeiler.com.  This event is being presented in collaboration with the Kansas City Festival of Faiths.
