Babysitting
Drop in child care Thanks to a generous contribution from the Philip and Dorothy Byer Philanthropic Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation, our babysitting room has been transformed into a sunny, plant-filled environment free of electronics,* where young children are encouraged to climb, crawl, explore, and make discoveries-a space where adults are close at hand, loving, and accessible, but are not imposing a schedule of structured programming.
*This conscious choice is the result of early childhood research indicating that children under the age of 2 should spend no time in front of television screens or computer monitors, and that the amount of time spent by children from 3-5 should be severely limited.

We can all use some rain! I was so glad to see the month start with a little slow, steady rain. The fall Jewish holidays are here, and we have some closings coming up. Labor Day, Monday 9/6 Wow! We know that’s a lot, but these are very important days in the Jewish Calendar as we end one year and begin another. We were so happy to see so many friends in August. Thank you all for making August so successful! Now September’s attendance is coming in line with the usual Fall participation. ACTIVITIES: Our theme for this month is The High Holidays. Expect to see some tissue paper Stars of David, cut out shofars (ram’s horns), and colored paper fruit hanging from our own special sukkah. We always put up a sukkah and love to sit there reading or doing puzzles. SATURDAY NIGHT OUT: You should have been there August 28! We had 35 children in attendance, so had the chance to do a lot of fun games, splashing in the pool, and running a super cool obstacle course. Join us this fall—September 25, October 23, Nov 6 or Nov 20! JEWISH ARTS FESTIVAL: Remember the date 10.10.10—art, music, food, and a great Children’s Pavilion! Mr. Mike |
